Year of the Movies

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

I swear we’ve gone to the movies more often this year than any other. It began with Underworld:Rise of the Lycans. Truly awesome. I am so enjoying this series of movies. It’s like they’ve finally figured out what it takes to make a truly exceptional series on purpose.

This is seen so rarely. Terminator, Godfather, The Matrix, American Pie. Well, yep, that is what comes to mind. The Die Hard series is good, but the continuity of a man doing the yo-yo I-Love-You, I-Hate-You thing with the women in his family really doesn’t satisfy as a continuity.

TV series understand the concept of a character arc from season to season, but movies don’t tend to work that way from movie to movie. So, Jason, Freddy, Michael and more just drag on. Can you think of any good ones I’ve missed?

What else? Oh, yes, X-Men: Wolverine. Very fun. I always wanted to know more about Logan. Then Star Trek. Very nice. I loved how it brought in a whole new generation and got them excited about the characters and the story, able to make it fresh and new without stepping all over canon.

And Terminator: Salvation. A wonderful continuation of the series. I loved how it brought in the love of his life from T3 and how it advanced the robots even more, making one human. That was awesome. And, loved the flashback to Arnie as the first Terminator. That was cool.

But, no, I didn’t love them all. Watchmen was a movie for fans. And teenage girls who giggle at the blue man’s penis. And the five in one scene. lol

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
Watchmen
X-Men: Wolverine
Star Trek
Terminator: Salvation

And we have several to count on seeing for the rest of the year. Movie ticket prices are still horrible, but we’ve had fun. :) That’s what counts, right?

Happy Father’s Day!

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

This has been quite the month so far. Graduation Day, Graduation/18th b-days and now Father’s Day.  While Craig was gone fishing and camping with his dad and brothers, our girls weeded the garden, mowed, weed-eated, straightened out the mess in the attic and got us that much closer to planting our peppermint plants and this new plant that is strange and round and has spiky petals.

A cleome.

He saw it at his mom’s and really wanted one. So she got it. :)

To mine and all the other dads out there, Happy Father’s Day!
