Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

The year of the movies, I swear. Hollywood is having a good year. Already we can see a few more, but I think I will wait until they are out of big theatres since we’ve already gone to so many this year. But, Sherlock Holmes, New Moon, GI Joe, and I have promised my youngest, my little chick-flick buddy that I’d take her to The Ugly Truth. It looks way too cute to miss. And I need to make up for the broken promise on The Proposal. LOL

However, in the meantime, we had a Harry Potter marathon with all 5 movies before seeing the Half-Blood Prince. We definitely have our favorites, but this latest one was so beautiful. I can’t wait to see the 7th/8th movie. The expansion of the story into such a dark, dramatic direction looks even better with each new trick of graphics.

Craig was almost shocked going into the movie by how many people thought it was the funniest one yet, considering the incredibly dark end. But there were so many hilarious moments. Ones I’d forgotten since it’s been so long since I’d read the books.

I am beginning to see the appeal of re-reading. We’ll see how far I go with that. LOL But movies and TV shows, those I love re-watching. Last night was a Bones marathon and I saw the first episode again. My daughter was disappointed. Bones began so cool with the haphazard clothes and the youthful hairstyle and the energetic determination and the issues between her and Booth. Now she’s very professional, almost rigid, and seems even more lacking in human understanding than she began. And her and Booth are beginning to drag on in terms of their relationship. I am now ready to separate David Boreanaz from Angel and enjoy Booth getting what he wants. :)

Which makes an interesting segue into actors and aging. Angel as a vampire, the HP cast… I don’t get the hoopla. Aging happens and it doesn’t bother me nearly as much as having a new actor or actress step into a role. So seeing the HP cast get older in the movies, especially since they are supposed to grow up during those school years, isn’t a bad deal for me. Seeing Angel grow an get older just didn’t matter. I think he just looked better. LOL

The Proposal

Monday, July 13th, 2009

We’ve all heard of writing dates. Or, at least, filling the creative well? Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way describes it best. Go for a walk, buy a doodad, go to the movies.

For me it’s hanging out with Angelina Evans. She writes for Ellora’s Cave and Changeling Press. Well, with the recession, the bookstore closed much earlier than we were prepared for and the nearby mall had closed even earlier. What are two friends to do?

Go watch The Proposal. What’s so funny is we didn’t realize from the previews they worked for a New York publisher and the movie would be peppered with the different aspects of publishing. Cute.

I loved it. And I have to say, Sandra Bullock is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.  Thank God she’s not a walking skeleton or that one scene would have been gross. Instead, she is curvy and womanly and gorgeous.

Transformers

We did it! We went to the midnight showing when Transformers was released. Been planning that one all year. It was pretty exciting. There were two Camaros out front during the movie. A roped off brand new one and an older version with the black racing stripe and everything.

My daughter was in love and is seriously reconsidering her love of Mustangs. Her dream is to own a Thalon Eleanor Mustang. But now she is considering a bright yellow Camaro or the black car from Supernatural. lol

The movie itself was great. I loved how everything from the first movie flowed into the second and continued it forward. Parts at the end were a little confusing, but overall very enjoyable. :)

Happy July 4th!
