Thinking Write

I’m reading this book right now. Thinking Write by Kelly L. Stone. Now, I may be someone who can rattle off my own disease and explain it so well that even doctor’s are impressed with my knowledge, but I am also the student who earned a grand 0.9 GPA in Anatomy and Physiology despite all my studying. I am a scientific moron. Just make it easy for me to regurgitate and I will score superb on fill in the bubble tests. LOL

So, when I say Kelly keeps it real for the layperson, I am not exaggerating. She starts by explaining Freud’s 3 parts of the mind, Conscious, Pre-Conscious and the Subconscious. She explains relaxing techniques and memory recall techniques. Then she explains brain waves in the different stages of sleep and how they relate to creativity.

I now totally understand why I cannot write new words and play sudoku in the same day. Even though I am published and the Evil level at www.websudoku.com rocks.

The sad thing? After whipping myself into a morning routine of take meds, get dressed, eat, exercise and then begin my day, Kelly advises getting out of bed and staying in that half-sleep “hypnagogic” state, complete with pajamas is a great thing for writing.

So now, to all the people who demanded I get up, get dressed, wear shoes and have a routine, I say, “Ha!”

NaNoWriMo Wrap-up

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

We have reached the end of November and now I have to look at my progress. Is that ever fun? Maybe if I’d “won” it would be.

I began the month with a bang. I was in the middle of a short story sequel to The Murder King’s Woman, tentatively titled The Summons. Or should it be The Murder King’s Summons? I also know I called it Murder Tales 2: The Summons. Titles can be such tricky bastards. LOL

So, I finished up The Summons and went back to my young adult, but that took a few days in which I fell behind and never quite caught up. I continued, forward progress is good, but I think I wrapped up the month around 15k, which is at least 3k better than last year, so I am actually pretty happy. I think a 50k month is still beyond me, unless I am rewriting and on deadline. Hmm.

I vow I will do better next year. Starting in January. :)

The Proposal

Monday, July 13th, 2009

We’ve all heard of writing dates. Or, at least, filling the creative well? Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way describes it best. Go for a walk, buy a doodad, go to the movies.

For me it’s hanging out with Angelina Evans. She writes for Ellora’s Cave and Changeling Press. Well, with the recession, the bookstore closed much earlier than we were prepared for and the nearby mall had closed even earlier. What are two friends to do?

Go watch The Proposal. What’s so funny is we didn’t realize from the previews they worked for a New York publisher and the movie would be peppered with the different aspects of publishing. Cute.

I loved it. And I have to say, Sandra Bullock is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.  Thank God she’s not a walking skeleton or that one scene would have been gross. Instead, she is curvy and womanly and gorgeous.

Sexual Tension

Sexual Tension = Watching the first season of La Femme Nikita with your 14 yr old and being on episode 4 when she screams, “Oh my God! Would those two just kiss already!”

BTW, www.thewb.com rocks. We loved Veronica Mars and now LFN. I am so glad to have a chance to finally share this series with my girls. :)
